Fall is usually a welcomed month in the Rice Lake area.
The air starts to turn cooler after what is usually pretty hot and humid weather in August and early September.
House cleaning needs change some as the seasons change in Wisconsin. Summer brings about its own cleaning requirements. You'll see some extra bugs on the windows and things like that.
Here are a few tips on how to clean your house right here in Rice Lake this coming fall.
Leaves In The House
The leaves don't fall until late October here in Rice Lake, but when they do they definitely start to find their way inside the house.
Especially if you have kids.
This requires a little more diligence with the floor cleaning. Keep the broom or vacuum handy near the mudroom and front entrance.
And you might even want to keep them near the laundry room because those leaves can get stuck in all kinds of places in our clothing.
First Snowfalls
Some of us love the first snowfall of the year. A few dread it.
But either way it's definitely around the corner. It seems that sometime in October the first flurries hit the ground.
There can be plenty of rain and mud throughout the summer. And some of it gets into the house. But it always seems like the darn snow gets in the house more than just normal rain. Or maybe it just tracks in differently.
Whatever the case, the floors will likely need extra, or just a different, kind of attention.
You might want to spot wipe when they are still wet. Or if you're busy you can use the broom or vacuum to get the dried mud. Then do regular mopping to make sure the floors stay clean this fall.
More Clothes and Jackets
The jackets, sweaters, sweatshirts, jeans and all the cool weather clothes start coming out in the fall. Most people love this change. It feels good to put on the comfy sweater after all the humidity from the past few months.
More clothes means more clutter. The mudroom will probably fill up with more jackets and coats. Possibly even more footwear, but more on that in a bit.
This change usually means just a little more tidying and organizing in the mudroom, the laundry room and the bedrooms.
But jackets can also bring in dirt.
The Boots Come Back Out
Boots!
Some of us wear them all year. But many of us save them for the cooler months.
Boots are great, but they usually have a little heftier bottoms that are great for traction, but also great for tracking in mud, dirt and other debris.
And let's be honest, not all of us are great about taking them off right away when we walk in the house.
Who wants to untie boots just to run in the house for something quick? Then go back and put them on and tie them again.
We've all been there.
The same cleaning mentioned here about the floors applies with boots. Just a little more dirt on the floors in the fall time.
More Frequent Toilet Cleaning
During the summer we're often leaving home for a weekend away visiting family and friends. Maybe you went up to Superior or Bayfield for a weekend. Maybe you went on a vacation or two.
But now with the weather cooling off and the kids back in school we're on our normal routine and we're home more often.
This will lead to more cleaning required all over, but pay special attention to the bathrooms and toilets.
When you're in the house more the toilets are used more. This requires more frequent cleaning to keep things looking good and to avoid build up grime.
Final Thoughts
Fall is an amazing time to live in Wisconsin.
The temperatures are cooling. The leaves are changing. Football is back.
It's really a wonderful time. The house cleaning remains mostly the same with a few little extra things to watch for.
Hopefully these tips will help you this coming fall.
