The average house in Rice Lake, Wisconsin takes 3 hours to clean.

However, there are more than a few caveats.

Some considerations include:

  • Home Size

  • Materials

  • Pets

  • Clutter

  • Thoroughness

  • The Cleaner

  • The Tools

Let's go into a little more detail to figure out how long your home will take to clean.

Home Size

Home size is the biggest factor when it comes to how long it will take to clean your home.

If you live in a studio apartment you will still have the kitchen and the bathroom, which require some time. But you won't have other rooms that come with a typical house in the Rice Lake area.

If you have a 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom home you're probably looking at about 2 to 3 hours to clean your home.

If you're looking at a 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom home you're looking at more like 4 to 5 hours.

Any extra rooms or size to the rooms you're looking at extra time.

Materials

The materials in the home matter as well. Hard surface flooring adds time to the clean. Instead of just vacuuming like you would do for carpet, you're looking at vacuuming (or sweeping) and then mopping. So you're going over the floor twice.

Longer-type carpet can also pose vacuuming challenges. The more areas there are for crumbs and dust to get into the harder it will be to clean.

Tile can also add more time. Grout requires more consistent cleaning and maintenance.

Stainless steel appliances can add some time. They really show streaks and grime so a good cleaner will take the extra time to make sure they're really clean.

Pets

Pets are great. We love pets at MaidPro.

In fact, a lot of our clients are pet owners. One of the reasons is that pets often bring extra cleaning challenges. The hair is especially challenging to keep under control. You have to take extra time when vacuuming and that includes all the furniture.

If a house has a pet it will add time. And the more pets in the house the more time you need.

Clutter

We all love our stuff.

Pictures on the walls. Keepsakes in the cabinets and on the shelves.

These things make our home feel like our home.

But clutter (I'm not a fan of that word, but you get it) adds more time to the clean. If you have an above average amount you're looking at more time for your house.

And that's fine. It just takes a little extra time to make sure you don't break anything and to clean around all the nooks and crannies that clutter can create.

Also one additional note on clutter. If you don't pick up around the home before cleaning it's going to take you more time. You have to put things like toys and blankets in their place before you're able to clean deeper.

Thoroughness

Each person is a little different with the way they clean. Some take extra care on the details. Others are more organizers and just getting the visible things.

The more thorough you are with cleaning the more time it will typically take to clean your home.

If you're doing a proper clean by dusting first at the top and working on each surface on the way down you're going to get a better, more thorough clean, but you'll also save time in the long run. The more often you maintain your home the more you will avoid infrequent mega cleans where the grime really builds up.

The Cleaner

The cleaner also matters.

If you're an experienced cleaner then you're going to be efficient. You can get all the details done just right and get them done in a reasonable amount of time.

And it's not just experience. The training you have matters too. If someone showed you how to clean well you're probably going to be a better cleaner and a faster cleaner.

The Tools

Cleaning supplies are pretty simple on the surface. But they matter. They matter for the quality of the clean and for the time it takes to finish the clean.

A strong vacuum, for example, can do a great job at getting everything on the first pass. That saves from having to go over it again and adding time to the clean.

Good microfiber towels also save time when you're wiping down surfaces. They get all the dust and dirt the first time around and save on repeated efforts.

Final Thoughts

Each house is different, but most are about the same when it comes to time. A good, thorough clean, such as the ones we provide following our 49-point checklist, will take about three hours for most homes in the Rice Lake area.

If you have a larger house it will take longer. And typically the first clean takes longer. We like to make sure we get the home up to our standards. Then we can maintain it on a regular schedule.
